The Fellowship is proud to be honor the following people at our Convention.

Cardinal Wright Award	Dr. John Keown Professor of Christian Ethics, Kennedy Institute-Georgetown	Bio Dr. John Keown John Keown is the 2022 recipient of the Fellowship of Catholic Scholar’s Cardinal Wright award, presented annually to a Catholic for outstanding service for the Church. He is currently a Senior Research Scholar in the Kennedy Institute of Ethics at Georgetown University, where he holds the Rose F. Kennedy Chair in Christian Ethics. In May 2022, he was reappointed by Pope Francis as an Ordinary Member of the Pontifical Academy for Life. He was previously University Senior Lecturer in the Law and Ethics of Medicine in the Faculty of Law at the University of Cambridge, and a Fellow of Queens’ College, Cambridge. He has produced seven books and many articles, mainly on law and ethics at the beginning and end of life. The second edition of his book Euthanasia, Ethics and Public Policy, described by the former Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales as “magisterial”, was published by Cambridge University Press in 2018. His work has been cited by distinguished bodies worldwide, including the United States Supreme Court and the Law Lords. In addition to his research on the law and ethics of medicine, Professor Keown has written on the immorality of nuclear deterrence and on the injustice of the American War for Independence. He has also published a play, Babydoctor, based on the famous trial of a doctor in 1981 for the murder of an infant born with Down Syndrome.
Cardinal O’Boyle Award	Dr. Mary O'Callaghan Adjunct professor of Statistics, Mendoza School of Business, University of Notre Dame	Bio Dr. Mary O'Callaghan Mary O’Callaghan received her doctorate in developmental psychology from the University of Notre Dame under an NIH grant for the study of developmental disabilities. She currently works as a Public Policy Fellow at the Notre Dame deNicola Center for Ethics and Culture as an adjunct professor of Statistics in Mendoza College at the University of Notre Dame, and as a faculty fellow in the Master of Autism Studies program at Saint Mary’s College. Her policy work has included testimony before the Indiana, Kentucky, and South Dakota state legislatures in support of bans on abortion of children with disabilities, and she has served as an expert witness in a Kentucky court case involving this legislation. She has also testified before the United Nations concerning the scope of international abortions of children with Down syndrome. She is a regular faculty member at the Vita Institute, a summer bioethics institute held annually at the University of Notre Dame, and has given numerous talks on the ethical issues involved in selective abortion of infants who receive adverse prenatal diagnoses. Dr. O’Callaghan has developed materials for the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops on disability, was a member of the Disabilities Advisory Board for the Diocese of Fort Wayne/South Bend, and is co-founder of Miriam’s Blessing, a diocesan Perinatal Hospice program. Mary and her husband John are the parents of 5 children, including their youngest, Tommy, who has Down syndrome and autism.
Founders Award	Prof. Russell Shaw Adjunct Professor, Pontifical University of the Holy Cross	Bio Prof. Russell Shaw Russell Shaw was secretary for public affairs of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops/United States Catholic Conference from 1969 to 1987 and director of public information for the Knights of Columbus from 1987 to 1997. He is the author of more than 25 books, including Nothing to Hide, American Church: The Remarkable Rise, Meteoric Fall, and Uncertain Future of Catholicism in America, Eight Popes and the Crisis of Modernity, and, most recently, The Life of Jesus Christ.

Description

For two thousand years, Christian saints and scholars have fostered civilization wherever they have lived. As the second-century Letter to Diognetus observed, Christians have inhabited “both Greek and barbarian cities … while following the customs of the natives in clothing, food, and the rest of ordinary life … Christians display their wonderful and admittedly striking way of life. They live in their own countries, but they do so as those who are just passing through… They exist in the flesh, but they do not live by the flesh. They pass their days on earth, but they are citizens of heaven. They obey the prescribed laws, all the while surpassing the laws by their lives.” The Fellowship’s 44th convention will engage participants from across the disciplines in discussions on topics meant to help them both understand modern challenges in light of the Gospel and provide them the resources to meet them more effectively.
