Position Description:

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Reporting to the Vice President of Academic Affairs, the Dean is the chief academic and administrative officer of the College of Arts and Sciences, responsible for its operational, financial, and strategic leadership. The College of Arts and Sciences is comprised of ten academic departments including history, philosophy, religious studies, fine arts, psychology, English, math, biology, chemistry/biochemistry, and physics.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a dedication to liberal arts education, a commitment to collegial and collaborative administrative leadership, and strong communication and interpersonal skills. Candidates should have experience in university advancement and demonstrate strategic engagement with trends in higher education. The Dean of Arts and Sciences is expected to understand and sustain the Catholic identity and mission of the university and support the university’s commitment to enhancing cultural diversity. The successful candidate will articulate a compelling vision for the College of Arts and Sciences and demonstrate the ability to nurture growth in faculty and programs in concert with the university’s mission and strategic plan.

Minimum qualifications for this position are an earned doctorate in one of the disciplines in the College or a closely related discipline, a distinguished record of teaching, service, and scholarship, and significant administrative experience. The ideal candidate will have held associate or full professor status and will give evidence of significant scholarly accomplishment.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Recruit and retain faculty committed to excellence in teaching, scholarship and service. Coordinate planning efforts,
program reviews, and accreditation activities, including student and institutional outcomes for undergraduate and graduate programs to support required accreditation and regulatory compliance.

Supervise, evaluate, direct and coordinate activities of department chairpersons and directors of art gallery and
performing arts.

Conduct regular meetings of full-time instructional faculty of the College to discuss issues of academic policy,
curriculum, personnel and program assessment, Faculty Senate deliberations and other matters pertaining to the College.

Meet regularly with department chairs/program directors in order to facilitate collaboration and to align department
efforts with the institution’s strategic plan.

Advise the Vice President of Academic Affairs on academic and personnel matters and concerns within the college and
inter-collegially.

Represent and advocate for the needs of the College at the institutional level and serve on committees that require such
College representation.

Supervise preparation of catalog material for the College and departments within the College.

Determine scheduling of courses and recommend implementation and modification of courses, programs and majors for
traditional and non-traditional students.

Coordinate academic advising.

Provide leadership in planning and assessment efforts for the College.

Supervise accreditation of programs where appropriate.

Lead and coordinate the efforts of chairpersons in recruitment of full-time and adjunct faculty, encourage faculty
development and scholarly efforts, and evaluate faculty performance within the College.
Work with departments to produce Department Quality Plans.

Assure responsible preparation and monitor the management of annual budgets within the College.

Develop College goals and align them with the mission statement and strategic plan of the institution, focusing
particularly on the development of students and the advancement of faculty.

Status: Full-Time, 12 months FLSA: Exempt

Salary Range: $75,456 - $99,979 Salary determined by qualifications held by the candidate.
