Position Description:

FATHER GABRIEL RICHARD HIGH SCHOOL at 4333 Whitehall Drive in ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN, is a 9-12 school with 553 students, 39 full-time teachers, and 3 part time teachers. Fr. Gabriel Richard is located in the northeast corner of the city of Ann Arbor in Washtenaw County, Michigan.



The principal is the primary religious and education leader of the school. As spiritual leader of the school, the principal is expected to nurture the faith development of the faculty and staff by providing opportunities for spiritual growth. As educational leader, the principal provides ample opportunity for continuing education for all staff members. The principal reports directly to the high school President and is responsible for the implementation of the mission statement of the school.



The mission of the schools of the Catholic Diocese of Lansing is the mission of Christ and of his Church — to educate and form young people as disciples who reach their full spiritual, academic, emotional, and physical potential. The schools are to be prayerful communities of witness, evangelization, and discipleship, where the distinctively Christian way of life is modeled, taught, and lived. A principal in a school of the Catholic Diocese of Lansing is the leader of a community of administrators, faculty, staff, volunteers, parents, students, benefactors, and friends. The principal is a close collaborator of the president, and, with the pastors of the region. A principal is directly responsible for recruiting, selecting, forming, guiding, and evaluating teachers who (a) are committed to Catholic education, (b) enjoy working with and teaching children, (c) have a deep knowledge of the pertinent subject matter, (d) are familiar with various didactic approaches, (e) are skillful in classroom management, (f) are skilled in developing and implementing curriculum, lesson plans, and formative assessments, (g) can address parent and community concerns, (h) are persistent and creative, (i) effectively use data and technology, and (j) are collegial and collaborative. A principal supervises students with love, strength, kindness, and wisdom.



The desired candidate for the position in a school of the Catholic Diocese of Lansing is a practicing Catholic, actively involved in parish life. The desired candidate holds a M.A. (or equivalent) in an educational field (educational leadership preferred), is currently certified (or readily certifiable) as a Michigan teacher, and is eligible for Michigan Administrative Certification. The desired candidate has at least five years of teaching experience, can effectively serve as the instructional leader of the school, is capable of formulating and administering the curriculum, and can adroitly oversee the school’s co-curricular programming.
