Position Description:

Father Gabriel Richard High School, a regional, comprehensive, co-ed Catholic high school in Ann Arbor, MI., whose mission is to form Disciples of Jesus Christ in an academic setting, is currently seeking a fulltime English and Forensics teacher for the 2017-2018 school year.

Applicants must be steeped in an integrated humanities curriculum with a focus on Classical Literature, The Western Canon, and The Great Books. Qualified candidates will possess a bachelor’s degree in English Literature or the liberal arts with a minor in English. A master’s degree is preferred. The applicant must be a practicing Catholic, who believes and is fully and firmly committed to the magisterial teachings of the Catholic Church. The ideal candidate will have teaching experience and can teach in two or more academic departments. The applicant must have a valid Michigan teaching certificate or be in the process of obtaining this credential.

This individual will also teach, prepare and coach students for forensic competition in the areas of interpretation of prose, poetry, drama, duo interpretation, extemporaneous, impromptu speaking, original oratory and broadcasting. The teacher is expected to work with students on an individual basis in order to sharpen their presentation and performance skills. This position requires some after-school, evening, and weekend participation during tournament and competition time. Furthermore, it involves organizing and registering students for their individual events as well as maintaining an association with MIFA (Michigan Interscholastic Forensics Association).

The candidate must have a deep understanding and a great love for public speaking. The ideal candidate has Forensics coaching and judging experience.
