Position Description:

Benedictine College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Sociology and Criminology starting August 1, 2018. Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications.

The successful candidate should hold a Ph.D. in Sociology or closely allied field. The J.D. alone is not sufficient for this position. Candidates with innovative teaching interests in all areas of sociology are eligible to apply, but preference will be given to candidates who are qualified to teach research methods and/or criminology/criminal justice. Additional duties include academic advising, curriculum development, professional development and service to the department, college, community, and professional field.

Benedictine College is an authentically Catholic, Benedictine, liberal arts, and residential college that is proud of its Catholic tradition and is faithful to its mission to educate men and women within a community of faith and scholarship. Benedictine College is ranked by the Cardinal Newman Society as one of the top Catholic colleges in the nation, listed as one of America’s Best Colleges by US News & World Report, and named as one of the top twenty colleges in America by a First Things magazine study of more than 2,000 colleges and universities. Benedictine College is located in Atchison, KS, which is small town that is a short drive from larger cities such as St. Joseph, MO, and Kansas City, MO.

Applicants should submit the following in a single email message addressed to both Mary Asher (masher@benedictine.edu) and Dr. Kevin Bryant (kbryant@benedictine.edu):

1. An application letter that indicates clearly how the applicant will contribute to the aforementioned mission of the college;

2. Curriculum Vitae;

3. A separate statement of teaching philosophy and interest; and

4. A separate statement of how the applicant plans to promote the Catholic tradition of integration of faith and reason.

For questions concerning the position, please contact Dr. Kevin Bryant, Professor and Chair of Sociology and Criminology, at 913-360-7399 or kbryant@benedictine.edu. Review of applicants will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Preference will be given to U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Benedictine College is an EEOC employer.
