Position Description:

Overview and Responsibilities

Saint Mary’s University is seeking a Core Faculty member in the PsyD in Counseling Psychology Program who is eager to contribute to Saint Mary’s Lasallian Catholic mission of awakening, nurturing, and empowering learners to ethical lives of service and leadership. We invite individuals to help transform lives through education, inspired by the Catholic Intellectual Tradition’s quest to understand the human experience through faith and reason, and its embrace of all who are dedicated to learning from one another through authentic conversations in search of the truth. We are especially interested in and give preference to candidates who demonstrate a vision to create and nurture initiatives that will advance our mission within the scope of their duties and who will foster a culture of dialogue that, with respect for all people, supports the search for meaning and purpose in pursuit of excellence.

The APA-accredited PsyD in Counseling Psychology program is a thriving and successful program with a collegial and supportive faculty team, successful student outcomes, and training aims involving social justice, ethical practice, and cultural humility. This full-time position begins in August 2023 and involves teaching doctoral-level courses to cohorts of approximately 14-16 students. Courses may include psychophysiology, psychological assessment, cognitive-behavioral approaches, clinical supervision and consultation, trauma treatments, and others. The standard teaching load is defined as 18-20 equivalent credit hours per 12-month contract year, with release time to conduct independent clinical practice. Core faculty are responsible for maintaining the academic integrity of the program and play an essential role in curriculum development and review, supervision and evaluation of students, assessment of program outcomes, and development of program objectives. In addition to teaching, core faculty participate in the development and assessment of qualifying examinations, supervise clinical dissertation research, and advise and mentor doctoral students. Candidates must have a record of effective instruction and potential to achieve excellence in teaching. Training/experience for the supervision of quantitative dissertation research is highly preferred.
